Books & Baby Event (BABE)
New Futures School receives grant funds from Reading is Fundamental’s Shared Beginnings
Program to promote literacy. This program helps you develop your child’s readiness to read. Three times a year you will be able to choose a baby book for your baby and a book for yourself.
There are approximately 4,500 RIF programs, and New Futures School was one of twenty-five programs
selected as RIF Program Excellence Honors 2006. Jo Sloan, principal; Gina Sisneros, Dean of Students;
and Terry Patrick, Childcare Director and RIF Coordinator traveled to Washington DC in June to participate
in this exciting event.

Laptime Reading Club
The Lap Time Reading Club is a program designed to give your child a head start in literacy. Studies show that children who receive 1000 hours of lap time reading before the age of five learn to love to read and learn.
- The childcare staff or lab students will read to your child when you are in your classes.
- When you enroll in a childcare laboratory for elective credit, you will be able
to read to your child
every day.
- You can sign up for the Lap Time Reading Club in the school library and keep a reading
log in your child’s childcare center.

- When you record two (2) hours of lap time reading,
take your log to the library for a prize.
- Each time you complete five (5) hours of lap time reading,
you
can
claim another prize.
- A grand prize will be awarded for the most hours logged. Have fun
