How Babies Learn

Babies learn

. . . everyday.
Babies start learning the day they are born. The most important learning of childhood takes place in the home.

. . . by discovering and exploring their world.
In a baby's eyes the world is a new, exciting place. They naturally "get into things" in order to learn about their world.

. . . by imitating what others do.
Babies like to imitate what they see and hear. Reading to your child will encourage the development of reading and language skills.

. . . by repeating and practicing actions and words.
Successful repetition of a skill builds your child's confidence.

. . . by receiving encouragement.
Babies need encouragement; appreciate their efforts. Reading together shows that you are interested in your child and that you want to help him/her grow to be the best person he/she can be.

Experts Agree ...

Children who are read to each day learn to talk sooner and learn to read earlier.

Reading builds your child's vocabulary.

Your child will think of reading as a pleasant activity.

Reading to your child helps his/her brain to develop and prepares him/her for school.

1000 hours of laptime reading before the age of 5 helps your child learn to love to read and learn. (That's about half an hour a day!)

Love of reading and books is great gift to give your child.
